This week’s video is one of the most popular mandolin videos on YouTube. Vivaldi’s music is brilliant, but also the orchestra Il Giardino Armonico and the soloist are magnificent.

This sounds so venetian. You can almost hear the water flowing through the canals on a summer night while the orchestra plays.
Special attention must be given to the soloist mandolin Duilio Galfetti, playing a Milanese mandoline. It is believed that the original Milanese mandolin was somewhat larger than this early baroque mandoline he plays in this video and was single strung. Also it was most probably played with fingers.
However, personally I think this is a lovely recording, his technique is excellent, the sound is beautiful and mellow so there is really no meaning to argue about using a pick! I am just now listening to the whole record (see below).
