Description

Why learn mandolin chords?

Western music is actually based on chords and their relations, so it is really difficult to progress as a musician without understanding basic chords theory and mastering how to play chords on your mandolin.

Having learned basic chords, you will be able to play along with others, something that is very rewarding. You will also be able to understand the “mechanics” and the structure of songs and to identify the forms and chords patterns that you prefer.

Writing your own tunes is also a very creative hobby (or … profession) and this is not possible without first understanding chords progressions per specific key.

All these, and many more, make mandolin chords a “must- learn” subject for all students and aspiring musicians.

The idea behind this book

I started learning mandolin chords very … late, almost 30 years after I starting my mandolin lessons and also after hundrends of concerts, where I played classical and Greek music.

Chords opened up for me a whole new world, where I could play along with friends and also enrich my melody and solo lines with intricate harmony. Unfortunately, learning to play these chords was not that straightforward. There is a lot of info freely available on the internet, but it is not easy to identify the method that will help you progress quickly.

I had been recording on my blog my progress, and before I knew it, I had created the biggest source of information for mandolin chords on the web. This information was very difficult to be properly organized, as it was distributed on hundreds of web pages and blog posts, so I decided it was about time to try another media, an e-book.

The contents of this book are therefore based on the articles posted on theMandolinTuner over the last 5 years. I have re- organized and enriched this free content in a way that I believe can help both beginners and advanced mandolin players.

I already use it daily as my own reference. So, take your mandolin and begin!
