The first annual New York International Mandolin Festival will take place July 15-17th, 2016, at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, 331 East 70th Street in New York, N.Y. The festival will feature some of the finest mandolin ensembles in the world performing twelve concerts and offering a variety of workshops over the course of the three-day event.
“The concerts are shaping up to be a real highlight, and a really great opportunity for listeners to hear some of the finest mandolin players to be found anywhere in the world” says Steven Antonelli, who is the festival organizer and leader of the host group, “The New York Mandolin Ensemble”. “People should expect the unexpected,” says Antonelli. “The concerts will feature the classical compositions that mandolin ensembles typically perform but we’ve tried to select artists that are capable of demonstrating the incredible range of music that this little instrument has to offer. So, expect some jazz-influenced compositions, Brazilian choro, with flavors of bluegrass, Celtic and other types of international and roots music too”.
