London Mandolin Ensemble
The LME was formed in June 2012 by a group of enthusiastic amateur musicians who enjoy making music together, and playing the plucked string family of instruments. They are a chamber ensemble with a wide range of classical music tastes, from baroque to contemporary, reflected in their repertoire.
Their aim is to maintain the tradition of an ongoing mandolin ensemble in London, one that lives and breathes a diverse range of classical repertoire, allowing them to develop their technique, expertise and enjoyment of chamber music.
The London Mandolin Ensemble share a common vision with theMandolinTuner, to increase interest in the mandolin and its family of instruments through performance, workshops and masterclasses.

London Mandolin Ensemble is a small chamber orchestra of around a dozen musicians and conductor. Our members are keen plucked string players from London and the surrounding areas.
We are pleased to have revived, in name at least, the original London Mandolin Ensemble,
which first met in Petit France and then Pimlico, London, in the early 1970s. Members of this group included Paul Marquis, who studied and worked with virtuoso mandolinist Hugo D’Alton at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the British composer Eileen Pakenham.
Our repertoire covers a wide range of classical music, from early music to contemporary works. Instrumentation is based on the Romantic quartet tradition of mandolin 1, mandolin 2, octave mandola and guitar.
Currently we meet fortnightly in Central London, on Tuesday evenings, throughout the year.
A new group, the Plucked Ensemble Master Class, under the direction of Travis Finch, meets monthly at the LME rehearsal venue, and is designed to build musicianship and ensemble playing skills for existing members as well as newcomers.
