HOTEL CALIFORNIA

The Eagles

BmF#
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
AE
Warm smell of colitas, rising through the air
GD
Up ahead in the distance,I saw a shimmering light
EmF#
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim,I had to stop for the night
BmF#
There she stood in the doorway,I heard the mission bell
AE
And I was thinking to myself: this could beheaven or this could be hell
GD
Then she lit up a candleand she showed me the way
EmF#
There were voices down the corridor;I thought I heard them say:
GD
Welcome to the Hotel California
 F#Bm
Such alovely place (such a lovely place), such alovely face
GD
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
 EmF#
Anytime of year (any time of year), you canfind it here
BmF#
Her mind is Tiffany twisted, she got theMercedes Benz
AE
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
GD
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
EmF#
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
BmF#
So I called up the captain,”Please bring me my wine”, He said
AE
”We haven’t had that spirit here sincenineteen sixty-nine”
GD
And still those voices are calling fromfar away
EmF#
Wake you up in the middle of the night, just to hear them say:

(Chorus)

BmF#
Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice, and she said
AE
”We are all just prisoners here,of our own device”
GD
And in the master’s chambers, they gathered for the feast
EmF#
They stab it with their steely knivesbut they just can’t kill the beast
BmF#
Last thing I remember, I wasrunning for the door
AE
I had to find the passage back tothe place I was before
GD
”Relax,” said the night man, “We areprogrammed to receive
EmF#
You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave”

Hotel California is the title track from the Eagles’ album of the same name and was released as a single in February 1977. Writing credits for the song are shared by Don Felder (music), Don Henley, and Glenn Frey (lyrics).

The song is considered the most famous recording by the band, and its long guitar coda has been voted the best guitar solo of all time by readers of Guitarist in 1998. Hotel California is also one of the most famous song written in the key of Bm (D)
