Detlef Tewes stands at the world’s leading conductors and orchestras as a synonym for universal mandolin virtuoso. As a solo artist, he has numerous prizes and performs with top orchestras and conductors. He is also the conductor and director of many mandolin orchestras and has released more than 30 CD recordings.

Detlef Tewes stands at the world’s leading conductors and orchestras as a synonym for universal mandolin virtuoso. In 1989 he graduated from the Music Academy in Cologne Institute Wuppertal completing his studies with the concert exam.

Detlef Tewes started earlier his career and he was the first winner of the Federal Award of the 1979 Youth and Culture Prize of the City Essen. Also in 1983 he won the 28th Federal Selection of Young Artists’ Platform for Young Soloists.

In addition to his solo career, which is documented in numerous radio, television and CD productions, Detlef Tewes regularly works with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Friedrich Cerha, Michael Gielen, Peter Eötvös, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Kent Nagano , Sir Simon Rattle, Giuseppe Sinopoli and Simone Young in numerous top orchestras.

He is focused and commited to the music of the 20th century, performing with the Berlin Philharmonic Scharoun Ensemble, the Ensemble Klangforum Wien, the Ensemble elision Melbourne, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Paris and above all in numerous premieres with the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt. M., including The Yellow Shark by Frank Zappa.

In addition to the Mandolin Orchestra Bayer Leverkusen, Detlef Tewes also conducts the Mandolin Concert Society Wuppertal and the Jugendzupforchester Baden-Württemberg. His leading position as a conductor is furthermore underlined through the regular appointment as a lecturer in the training of conductors of the Federation of German Zupfmusiker.

Detlef Tewes has undertaken as a conductor and soloist concert tours throughout Europe, in the USA, Brazil, Venezuela, Japan, China and Australia.
